It’s Science Fair at schools across the country. Since Zoë is in Kindergarten this year, I wasn’t expecting her to have to create a Science Fair project. However, she had to!
Instead of the standard Science Fair, her school is hosted an Invention Convention this week. At first I was a little overwhelmed until we found out that the Kindergarteners could either choose to create an invention or a musical instrument from items around the house.
If you’ve known us for long, you’ll know that my husband Brian is a musician and we have a lot of instruments in our home. Zoë decided to make her own musical instrument. She came up with the entire concept on her own, including the name. And she created it on her own as well.
I am a huge fan of letting your child drive his or her own projects with as little intervention as possible. She presented it to her school on Thursday. It was so cute watching her talk about her Cartaraca (carton + maraca = cartaraca).
Apparently Zoë got her inspiration for her Cartaraca from an episode where Curious George made a shaker from a milk carton. You never know where your child will get inspiration from!
